OBJECTIF 13 : Fight climate change

« Take urgent action to combat climate change and its impacts by regulating emissions and promoting developments in renewable energy »

The impacts of climate change are now felt on all continents, disrupting the economies and lives of their inhabitants, particularly their most marginalized populations. Without action, the average surface temperature of the Earth will exceed 3 degrees Celsius during the 21st century.

Solutions are now available to move to cleaner, more resilient economies, and the pace of adaptation is accelerating. However, this global crisis impacts all regions, beyond their national borders, and it can only be resolved by taking international action, including helping developing countries move towards a low-carbon economy.

Even though the 2016 Paris Agreement has set ambitious targets in order to fight this crisis, it has been put in effect slowly, and some political movements oppose its objectives head-on, sometimes denying the climate crisis altogether. However, a report published in May 2015 by CDKN and HR Wallingford reminded that economic growth and climate change were inextricably linked, and that initiatives should be taken to minimize the negative impact of this growth on the environment.

In order to reach this target, it would be crucial to prevent global warming to exceed 1.5 ° C above pre-industrial level. However, this would mean reducing the net amount of CO2 emissions by 45% between 2010 and 2030, before reaching a net zero in 2050.

This global crisis can only have a global solution, and it is possible to see artisans from India and France confronting it in their own way. The fight against climate change in India is represented by Mohd Yunus, a craftsman from the village of Pataudi, in Haryana, who united the artisans of his workshop with the peasants of his village to fight together against desertification. In France, we followed Redeem Equipment, a team of two craftswomen who produce sports equipment using factory scraps, saving them from the incinerator that pollutes their valley.

Here are some documentaries that represent the struggle to achieve this Goal:
