GOAL 1: Fight against poverty

LExtreme poverty has been reduced by more than half since 2000. However, in 2020, 1 in 10 people still live below the international poverty line ($ 1.90 per day) and more than 11% of the world still lives in extreme poverty, mainly in Sub-Saharan Africa and South Asia.

Poverty cannot be reduced to insufficient income: it also includes hunger and malnutrition, discrimination, lack of participation in decision-making and limited access to basic services such as health, security, and education.

Children are the main victims of extreme poverty, followed by women, who are often prevented from accessing education and better income.

One of the desirable solutions to this crisis is a better distribution of economic growth in order to create sustainable jobs and promote equality. Solid state institutions must be able to establish social protection systems capable of alleviating the suffering of populations vulnerable to economic crises or climate change.
